Today started out a bit cool and quite damp but by noon the sun was shining and the day turned glorious. After I did my short little mail route I decided to head to the rodeo. They have a horse sale, tack auction and vendors to browse and it doesn't cost a dime. I photographed an adorable pinto mule and a really pretty palomino Paint mare then browsed around watched some team penning.
Afterwards I went to the garden center to pick up some cabbage and a few seeds. On the way back I thought I'd stop in at a bookstore I have been meaning to go into. We haven't any new bookstores around here such as a Borders. Closest one is a good hour away and me, being a book nut, goes through withdrawl. As much as I love Amazon there is just nothing nicer than browsing a real bookstore. So off I went to Dan's Dog Earred Books.
I was more than pleasantly surprised. I immediately found an Aromatherapy book I have wanted with some great recipes. As I browsed around I came to the horse section and my eyes nearly popped when I saw a really expensive copy of a horse genetics book sitting there for $14.00...not even a 3rd of the cost! I snatched it up and as I checked out Dan told me a farrier (person who trims and/or shoes horses) had just been in last week looking at that book. His wife gave him "put it back" vibes I guess as he told her maybe he'd get it the next time he was in there. Well you are outta' luck buddy, LOL. I told Mr. Dan that the fact I raise a rare breed of horse (only around 350 of them) I am truely interested in learning more about closebreeding, which I am doing now, linebreeding and even inbreeding. And here it was. I need it more than a farrier, LOL.
I came home, mowed lawn, tidied up the house somewhat since my son's girlfriend was coming by for a graduation party my son was invited to. I then worked on a couple letters to friends, planted my flowers, groomed horses and watched the news. Tomorrow is to not be so nice...gray and cool so maybe I can get some artwork started and/or worked on. I have been so lazy as of late.
